With the 2014 Lexus IS slated to hit dealerships across America, we were given a chance to experience the third-generation IS on a spin around North Carolina including Pinehurst Village, Carolina Hotel, Pinehurst Golf Course and Rockingham Speedway. The 2014 model of the Lexus IS series sees a dashing, sportier iteration — leaning towards a more angular outer construction. The 2014 IS offers a powerful road experience with the assistance of new dynamic signature spindle grille and the debut of LED Daytime Running Lights. Apart from the premium exterior add-ons, the 2014 Lexus IS sees improved welding techniques along with an all-new multi-link rear suspension adopted from the celebrated GS sedan — all employed in the smaller IS package. Meanwhile, its dashboard is inspired by the Lexus LFA supercar with a combination of a 80-inch TFT LCD which projects a virtual tachometer. The wheelbase has also been increased by nearly three-inches for legroom and cargo room, providing a loftier feel without forgoing complacency.
With the model being available later this year, the IS 250 — powered by a 2.5 liter v6 providing 204 horsepower — is compatible for the city roads with mid range torque, while its bigger brother, the IS 350 — 3.5 liter v6 with 306 horsepower — is a more powerful vehicle, matching its aggressive look with a larger engine. Both IS models are equipped with electronically controlled all-weather drive systems to help enhance traction and grip under different driving conditions. Along with the new features, up to five driving modes are programmed into the vehicle to offer a tailored driving experience under different circumstances. The IS 250 starts off with a price tag of $35,950 while the IS 350 sits at $39,456.
